12-Hour free stay at a hospital

And the room service was dreadful. >X(

Well, I started with a cold last week, which seemed to have improved until yesterday when it started getting worst and making it harder to breathe. I was going to my academy's musical with my mother and sister but told them I couldn't. Had gone to the doctor in the morning because I had a mild fever and my lungs would still feel constricted even after using my nebulizer(breathing machines for meds for asthma) and I tried sleeping a few hours in the afternoon but the cough wouldn't let me and I was getting more miserable. But still I decided to wait a bit more see if the new meds had any effects and around 9pm I decided to go to the hospital.
We got there around 10pm. Since I was coughing like mad and wheezing they took my vitals right away, but still made me wait a bit for the doctor to see me. He said my lungs were really congested and told me I was to get 3 nebulizer therapies and also pills for the fever I had, blood test to check for infection and a chest X-ray and I.V. hydration because I was dehydrated(as I berely felt like eating or drinking anything while feeling miserable).
I was made to wait again until called but it was already after midnight and nothing. The emergency room was packed! You see, we get strong winds that bring up dust from the Sahara desert and the air quality hasn't been well(Everywhere looks like it's covered in yellowish mist in plain light) so children, elderly and people with respiratory problems will get sick easier. Most of the people there were sneezing and coughing like me. Then I got a rather nasty coughing fit and felt my lungs get more constricted so I went to the nurse and told her I could hardly breathe so she advanced the therapies. But then I had to wait several hours before they decided to take my blood samples after 3am, and I think it was already 6am they took the x-ray. Since I took my mini laptop I kept myself entertained reading Harry Potter eBooks. By the time the new doctor checked on me my chest was already congested again and that was around 8am so she said 3 more therapies, added a cough medicine to drink that tasted nasty, another medicine to go through the I.V. and then a small I.V. of benadryl they said would make me dizzy but it didn't. (I think I'm probably immune to sleeping meds because they never seem to work much on me) I felt a lot better then. My fever had gone as well as the nasty headache that came with it that felt as if my head was being squished and even worst every time I coughed. And my lungs got clearer.
The doc added an extra pill to the meds the previous doc had given me and to follow both treatments. I got out of the hospital at 10am so those were 12 full hours at the hospital last night and today.
Now I'm gonna catch on some sleep (having another therapy right now as I type) Have to be up every six hours stuffing myself on pills and liquid meds.
Well, at least I got my appetite back. Stopped by Subway to buy a new sandwich I've been wanting to try~
I'm still getting random and very painful coughing fits as well as annoying sneezing fits. DX

Wow, that sounds like a horrible experience! I hope things get better. It seems not a lot of good has been befalling all my DA friends, be it their emotional or physical health. :(

Oh, god I know exactly how you feel. I went through almost the exact same thing when I contracted a serious bout of the flu in 1999. I had walking pneumonia and was put on a nebulizer for almost a month and had to take five different medications not only to clear up the congestion but the fever and the flu itself. I almost stayed at the hospital, but they decided to send me home due to being overrun with patients at the time.

I know you will pull through on this. Just take care, alright?

A lot of hospitals here are that way or worst, they send you home while still sick saying you're fine and you have to go back to another hospital. So this one was one of the best choices even if not perfect either. But I still didn't complain much because I was getting a decent treatment that was improving me better than at home even if slowly. I was gonna complain if they sent me home while I still felt horrible as when the second doctor checked me I still had the fever but whatever it was she gave me made it stoped. So I felt better and she added prescriptions to the ones I already had so my complain was how they took forever to do some things that if they could have done quicker I didn't have to be there so long. The new nurses that got in the shift change were also nicer and actually kept checking on my condition while the first ones mom had to keep looking for them and waiting until they felt like coming over to check on me and others in the room too that had been there around the same time as me and also spend a lot of hours. I several of us even complained because there was a wheezing child that they hadn't attended yet and kids should be priority.
At least I just parked myself in a lean back chair on the I.V. room close to an electric plug so I kept entertained with my mini laptop. :3

Don't worry. I'm used to hospital since I've been asthmatic since 3 years old. Had chronic Pnaumonia 3 times in my life and the most I've been hospitalized was about a month. My asthma has been controlled for years though, I haven't been hospitalized for a long time but spending nights at emergency room happens once or twice a year, that's why I didn't think twice in going when my home meds weren't doing their job. At least I can breathe now and the fever is gone, coughing fits aren't as often or as strong and I managed to sleep for a bit before having to wake for meds(That's the worst part. Even if you can now rest you have to wake every few hours to take your medication DX)

I've had asthma since I was 3 years old and had chronic pneumonia 3 times. I think I also spent a full month at a hospital, maybe a bit more(It was in a hospital I watched the english version of SatAM on their cable tv and hear Julian Robotnik's awesome sexy voice X3 I didn't want to leave to watch the next episode but even after the doctor playfully threatened to inject more needles if I stayed I didn't care because it was Sonic! XD Had to leave, it was on saturdays only, wasn't gonna stay one whole extra week just for that) Doctors said one of my lungs wasn't working right because of the trauma from the pneumia, but it's probably healed now as I haven't heard any other doctors mention it.

But now my asthma is controlled and I haven't been hospitalized for years, the most I remember was one full day in a room, but it's mostly spending nights in emergency rooms until I recover and get sent home and that only happens about one or twice a year. I use my inhalers several times a week thought, specially when I do fitness sessions.
So, the experience itself wasn't really new to me. But gee, 12 hours? It they had done their job right it would have been so much less.
Still, I parked myself in a confy lean-back chair on the I.V. room next to an electric plug and kept myself entertained with my mini laptop. :3

Now the worst part is that I came back home to sleep but have to wake every 4 hours to take meds and use the nebulizer. DX

It was more the nurses than the doctors. The first doc actually told me how bad I was and how he'd make sure I didn't leave until I was recovered. Since I stayed so long there was a shift change and the second doctor also gave a good treatment and checked on me twice before deciding I could go home.
The nurses were the ones taking forever to do what the doctors told them to do.
